What’s in a name?

What better name for a local Gaelcholáiste than Coláiste na Tulchann (Tolka College).  The Tolka River rises in Dunshaughlin Co. Meath, flowing through Dunboyne, Clonee, Mulhuddart, Blanchardstown and on towards the Irish Sea primarily flowing through Fingal County on its way.  We felt its early path encompassed the areas that will benefit from the establishment of a local Gaelcholáiste.  Just like the River which has nourished, sustained and enriched our community over the centuries, we would hope that our new school will play a major role in the enrichment and shaping of our communities in years to come. CAD IS AINM ANN? Níl ainm níos fearr ann don Ghaelcholáiste áitiúil ná Coláiste na Tulchann. Éiríonn Abhainn na Tulchann i nDún Seachlainn, Co. na Mí, agus ritheann sí trí Dhún Bóinne, Chluain Aodha, Mhullach Eadrad, Bhaile Bhlainséir agus ar aghaidh i dtreo Mhuir Éireann ag gluaiseacht trí chontae Fhine Gall ar an mbealach. Mhothaíomar gur chlúdaigh sruth na habhann na ceantair a bhainfidh tairbhe as an nGaelcholáiste nua. Ar nós an abhainn a chothaigh, a bhuanaigh agus a shaibhrigh an pobal s’againne thar na céadta tá súil againn go mbeidh ról lárnach ag an scoil nua i saibhriú agus i gcruthú an phobail sna blianta amach anseo. ANOTHER CHOICE – A LOCAL CHOICE The area currently has three primary Gaelscoileanna and two of these schools have doubled their intake to meet the growing demand for Irish language education – both locally and nationally.  It is critical that these children should be assured of being able to continue their second level educations in Irish when they finish in these primary schools. ROGHA EILE – ROGHA ÁITIÚIL Tá trí bhunscoil lán-Ghaeilge sa cheantar agus tá siad tar éis líon na n-iontrálaithe a dhúbailt le freastal ar mhéadú an éilimh ar oideachas lán-Ghaeilge – go haitiúil agus go náisiúnta. Tá sé ríthábhachtach go mbíonn fáil ag na daltaí seo ar oideachas lán-Ghaeilge ag an dara leibhéal tar éis dóibh an bunleibhéal a fhágáil.
